Important USPS Pricing Update for Pack & Kin Member Locations

Important USPS Pricing Update for Pack & Kin Member Locations

As part of our ongoing commitment to keeping Pack & Kin members informed and prepared, we want to share an important update regarding USPS pricing policies that may impact how certain shipments are rated at the counter.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) maintains an established “Exception” policy that applies to more than 17,000 ZIP codes nationwide. Shipments originating from or destined to these ZIP codes may not qualify for traditional retail pricing and are instead automatically rated at the USPS Commercial price level, regardless of where the shipment is entered.

What this means for Pack & Kin locations

  • This policy is not new, nor is it specific to Pack & Kin or independent stores.
  • It applies nationwide and is system-driven by USPS based on logistics, routing, and service areas.
  • In affected ZIP codes, commercial pricing is the correct and authorized rate, even when a shipment might historically have appeared retail-eligible.

Why this matters

Understanding this policy helps:

  • Set proper expectations with customers
  • Prevent confusion at the counter
  • Ensure consistent, compliant pricing across all Pack & Kin locations

Pack & Kin is actively working to ensure member stores have clear guidance, talking points, and system alignment around this policy so teams feel confident explaining it when questions arise.

More detailed references, customer-friendly explanations, and suggested counter language will be shared shortly.

As always, thank you for operating with professionalism, transparency, and care for your customers and communities.
